First-use help

Get unstuck without learning the entire application

Use these plain-language answers before creating a project. Project-specific Help becomes available after a build is opened.

Your data boundary

Clerk performs account authentication and session management. Clerk receives the identity and session data required for sign-in. RestoreIQ restoration records, project media paths, budgets, purchases, workflow, evidence, and build-book records are stored in RestoreIQ's hosted Postgres database and Vercel Blob storage unless the operator intentionally exports, backs up, or sends selected data through an enabled connector.

Sign-in and setup

Secure sign-in protects account access. If secure sign-in is not configured, Setup explains the missing variable names without showing secret values. On localhost, the guided demo can be used before secure sign-in is connected.

How RestoreIQ organizes a build

A vehicle area is a major system such as Engine, Brakes, Electrical, or Body. A build group is a smaller section inside that area. A tracked part is the individual component you inspect, photograph, repair, replace, or install.

AI and connectors are optional

Manual entry remains available when RestoreIQ AI, local AI, or cloud AI is not enabled. Cloud actions require project consent and action-level confirmation. A disabled feature should explain why it is off and where to configure it.

Local data and backups

RestoreIQ stores project records in the local project database and references local project media. Configure backups before relying on RestoreIQ for a long-running or customer build.

Common first-use recovery

For sign-in trouble, use Auth Recovery. For database or configuration trouble, use Setup. For VIN lookup trouble, continue with manual vehicle entry. For disabled intelligence, continue manually and configure it later.
